IPL & NIR
for Anti-Aging
IPL (Intenzivna pulzna svetloba) is a highly popular non-invasive cosmetic procedure. It utilizes a specific wavelength of polychromatic pulsed light to perform aesthetic treatments on the skin through the principle of selective photothermolysis.
NIR laser technology has gained widespread application in cosmetic treatments due to its non-invasive, painless, and short recovery time characteristics. It can provide comprehensive skin quality improvements, including tightening, whitening, brightening skin tone, and improving skin laxity.
IPL
Overview
IPL is a broad-spectrum light with a wavelength range typically between 400-1200nm. It differs from laser light, which is monochromatic and coherent, while IPL is incoherent and non-collimated. The light source of IPL is released by a high-energy xenon flash lamp under tens of thousands of volts of high pressure, hence it is referred to as a polychromatic pulsed light source that includes various colors of light.
The working principle of IPL is based on selective photothermolysis. The skin contains multiple chromophores such as melanin, hemoglobin, and water, each with different levels of light absorption. The broad-spectrum light of IPL covers the main absorption peaks of these chromophores, and by using filters, wavelengths that are more readily absorbed by specific chromophores can be selected.
Melanin: Absorption of light decreases as the wavelength increases within the range of 290-1200nm.
Hemoglobin: Has three absorption peaks at 418nm, 542nm, and 577nm.
Water: The absorption spectrum is mainly in the near-infrared range.
By adjusting the parameters of the IPL device, such as pulse width, pulse interval, and energy density, treatments can be targeted at different chromophores. The pulse width should be shorter than the thermal relaxation time of the chromophore to ensure that the light energy is concentrated on the target chromophore rather than being transmitted to the surrounding tissue. Pulse interval and synchronous cooling techniques help protect the epidermis and reduce adverse reactions.

NIR
Overview
NIR lasers are a type of laser that emits light within the near-infrared spectrum, typically with wavelengths ranging from 700 do 2500 nanometers (nm). This spectral range lies just beyond the visible light spectrum, which spans from 400 do 700 nm, and before the mid-infrared spectrum. The development of NIR lasers began in the mid-20th century, following the invention of the first laser in 1960. Researchers recognized the potential of the near-infrared spectrum, particularly its ability to penetrate biological tissues without causing significant damage. This unique attribute led to the initial adoption of NIR lasers in medical applications.
The working principle of NIR lasers is based on the process of stimulated emission. The laser excites atoms or molecules to a higher energy state, and when these excited particles return to their ground state, they release a photon. In a laser, this process is amplified to produce a coherent and parallel beam of light. The specific material used in the laser device structure, commonly referred to as the “gain medium,” determines the wavelength of the emitted light.
Aplikacija & Principle
Indication | Principle | Effect | |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Skin Tightening and Anti-Aging | NIR lasers heat the water molecules in the dermis, causing collagen fibers to contract and stimulating the production of new collagen fibers, similar to the principle of radiofrequency treatment. This thermal effect can promote the metabolism of skin cells, enhancing skin firmness and elasticity. | The skin appears more tightened after treatment, with fine lines and wrinkles improved, and an overall younger-looking complexion. |
2 | Improving Skin Tone and Texture | NIR lasers can enhance blood circulation in the skin and promote cell renewal, thereby improving uneven skin tone and rough texture. | The skin tone becomes more even, the texture smoother, and the overall health of the skin is enhanced. |
3 | Enlarged Pores | Through thermal effects, NIR lasers stimulate the production of collagen, filling in the gaps around the pores, thereby reducing the prominence of the pores. | Pores become more refined, and the skin surface is smoother. |
4 | Skin Sagging | NIR lasers target the deeper layers of the skin with heat, promoting the reshaping of collagen and the generation of new collagen, strengthening the skin’s support structure. | Conditions of skin laxity are improved, especially in areas such as the cheeks, neck, and jawline. |
5 | Skin Whitening and Brightening | NIR lasers promote the renewal of epidermal cells, reduce pigmentation, and increase the skin’s luminosity by improving microcirculation. | The skin tone becomes brighter, and dark spots and hyperpigmentation are improved. |
